MCKENZIE, Tenn. (08.07.09) - The Bethel Lady Wildcats softball team added some pitching depth with the signing of Aston Carnahan. Carnahan was a four year starter for the Lady Tigers of Waverly. She set a school record with 33 wins on the mound her sophomore season. She is the daughter of Keith and Lisa Carnahan.
Carnahan is the Waverly career strikeout holder with over 500 K's. She is also a talented hitter with a career batting average over .300 and has stolen over 100 bases. Carnahan was voted to the District 11AA All-District team her sophomore, junior and senior seasons as well as to the MTSCA All-Midstate team. She has been instrumental in the Lady Tigers overall team success with the team winning several high profile invitational tournaments in the regular season as well as advancing to the TSSAA state tournament her junior season.
"She is a coach's dream player who is going to give you everything she has during practice and games," said Waverly Head Coach Stephen Webb. "She is a fierce competitor who strives to make not only herself better, but also her teammates. She also is a great role model to other students by doing the right things in the classroom and volunteering in the community to help others."
Carnahan also carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the classroom and has been recognized by the TSSAA as an outstanding student athlete and also by the MTSCA as an All-Academic Midstate team member as well.
"I am very pleased to have such a high quality person who is also an excellent student athlete to be part of our softball program here at Bethel", said Bethel University Head Softball Coach Larry Geraldi. "Ashton is a very versatile softball player who will see action on the mound and as a utility player as well. Ashton has blazing speed, a good bat, and will lead by example both on the field and in the classroom."
