Bethel's Abbey Masters, ranks 48th in the nation in set assists, helped lead the Bethel Lady Wildcats to a 3-2 win.
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (09.24.09) - The Bethel Lady Wildcats continued their record setting start to their season with a 3-2 victory over the Lady Bulldogs of Cumberland University. The win pushes Bethel's record to 12-1 and sets a new mark for the best start to a season.
 

Bethel took game one 25-20, but was set back in game three 13-25. After the first two games, both teams made adjustments and had figured out the other's strengths. The final three games were only separated by two points. Bethel took game three 25-23 and Cumberland won game four 25-23 to tie the match score 2-2. In the final game, Bethel had to come from behind, but pulled out a 15-13 win to claim the match.

Thiase Vieira who is ranked number four in the nation in kills, led the Lady ‘Cats with 19 on 33 attempts. She also had a set assist, two service aces, two solo blocks and three block assists. Adrianna Bookout-Gonzalez had 12 kills on 52 attempts. Jessica Vieira posted 8 kills on 37 attempts with four set assists and two block assists. Abbey Masters, ranked 48 in the nation in set assists, had 36.

Bethel will host Brescia University (Ky.) on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 2:00. Then, the Lady Wildcats will be tested again on the road in Henderson, Tenn. against conference power Freed-Hardeman University on Monday, September 28, 2009 at 7:00pm. Bethel defeated Freed on September 10, 2009, 3-0 in McKenzie.
