Jessica Vieira (6) helped lead the Lady Wildcats to thier first-ever win over Union
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (10.06.09) - The Lady Wildcats volleyball team continues to build on the best start ever and is collecting new team accomplishments along the way. Since the inception of volleyball Bethel has never defeated Union University, going 0-20. Bethel ended their futility against the Lady Bulldogs with a 3-1 win in front of an enthusiastic "black out" crowd.
 

Bethel lost game one 24-26, but dominated the next three, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-14. In Bethel's three wins, the Lady ‘Cats jumped out to early leads, held off the Lady Bulldogs and then pulled away. In the deciding game, Jessica Vieira provided four early kills in the deciding game that helped Bethel to a 9-3 lead.

Thaise Vieira led the Lady Wildcats with 19 kills on 39 attempts. One of the big differences on the evening was the play of J. Vieira. In the first match-up of the season with Union, J. Vieira was feeling a little under the weather. Feeling good, J. Vieira had 16 kills on 28 attempts; she also added one solo block and four block assists. Adrianna Bookout-Gonzalez had 11 kills on 33 attempts, three service aces and two block assists. Deseray Washington had 5 kills on 10 assists and seven block assists. Abbey Masters posted 50 assists with two kills and three block assists. Shea Sheppard had two kills and two assists. Michele Cunha led the team with 21 digs.

Bethel is 16-2 (7-2) on the season. They will next be in action at Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, Ky. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at 7:00pm. Then on Thursday, October 14, 2009 they will be in Lebanon, Tenn. to play the Lady Bulldogs of Cumberland University at 6:00pm.
