KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The sixth edition of the 2009 NAIA National Women's Soccer Players of the Week was announced on Tuesday: Jackie Gardner of Bethel (Tenn.) was named NAIA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 5 - 11. The winner were chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week performers among 23 conferences and independents.
Gardner, a 5-8, sophomore goalkeeper from Windsor, Ontario, did not allow a goal against No. 6 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) to secure Bethel's first shutout of the Lady RedHawks in its last eight contests. Gardner managed 15 saves over the course of 110 minutes in goal to preserve the draw in double overtime. Due to injury Jackie has been limited to only three games in goal this season, but has made the most of her opportunities, notching a 2-0-1 record and recording two shutouts while only allowing one goal.
