MCKENZIE, Tenn. (10.17.09) - The #1 ranked Bethel University Wildcats men's soccer team scored early and often in their 7-0 defeat of the Scots of Lyon College. The Wildcats' defense only allowed four shots in the contest.
Bethel got on the board in the 8th minute on a goal by Andres Mejia who was assisted by Eric Rosas. The Wildcats struck again eight minutes later as Mario Vila Boa scored his first of two goals on the day in the 16th minute. Five minutes after that, Vila Boa assisted Dawyne Smith for a 3-0 lead.
It was more of the same in the second half as Bethel's offense continued to pressure Lyon. The Wildcats took 13 shots to Lyon's two in the second frame. Armando Orozco took a feed from Vila Boa in the 56th minute for a 4-0 advantage. Vila Boa netted his second in the 64th minute, Smith notched his second in the 72nd minute with an assist from Orozco and Orozco finished the scoring with his second of the day in the 75th minute.
Massimo Collu-Marchese recorded his sixth shutout of the season in picking up the win.
Bethel's unbeaten streak is now at 25 games dating back to last season. They are 9-0-3 (3-0-2) on the season. They will host Brescia University on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2:00pm.
