MCKENZIE, Tenn. (10.28.09) - The Bethel baseball program is off to an early start adding pitcher and infielder Gavin Lindsey. Lindsey played all four years at Liberty Magnet High School in Jackson, Tenn. and will enter Bethel in the fall of 2010 after two years at Jackson State. He is the son of Bill and Christy Lindsey and Cathy Thomas.

Lindsey started every year for the Crusaders at Liberty under coach Lanier English. In addition to pitching, Lindsey plays catcher and infield. He was All-District 13AAA all four years at Liberty and was District 13AAA MVP his senior year.

In his senior year, Lindsey was 6-3 with a 1.89 ERA on the mound. At the plate, he hit .397 with four home runs and 36 RBI.

"The coaching staff is very excited about signing a two-way ballplayer of Gavin's caliber," said Bethel Head Coach Rusty Thompson. "We look forward to him providing us with quality innings on the mound and also hitting somewhere in the middle of the lineup. Gavin has always played for good programs and has been very well coached. Our coaches believe that he will represent our team and school well both on and off the field."

Lindsey considers his strength to be his winning attitude. Reflecting on his playing time, his most memorable moment was striking out 13 and scoring the winning run to beat Brighton in the district championship.

Lindsey was being sought after by the University of Arkansas - Ft. Smith, Lambuth University and Union University. He chose Bethel because he likes the coaches and the school provides a good education. He plans on majoring in Physical Education.
