Clarksburg, Tenn. (10.26.09) - Erica Yarbro, a senior at Clarksburg High School, has signed an athletic scholarship with Bethel University for the 2010-2011 academic year. Yarbro is the daughter of Michelle and James Clark of Clarksburg.
Yarbro is an outstanding golfer and softball player and will be given the opportunity to play both sports for the Lady Wildcats. Yarbro is an all-round athlete and has played golf, softball, and basketball for the Lady Rockets. Yarbro has twice been named an all-district performer in softball and earned all-district in basketball in 2008-2009.
In the recently concluded golf season Yarbro averaged 42 strokes per nine-hole round. Yarbro shot an 85 in the eighteen- hole District 13-AA tournament at Winged Foot Golf Course in Union City which earned her a tie for second. The next week at the Region 7-AA tournament, held again at Winged Foot, Yarbro improved three strokes by carding an 82 and earned the third-place medal and a berth in the State High School Golf Championship. Erica cited making the state golf tournament as her most memorable athletic accomplishment.
Yarbro is also a distinguished scholar who maintains a 4.00 grade point average and participates in Beta Club, FCCLA, FBLA, the yearbook and Spanish Club. Yarbro will major in elementary education at Bethel University.
Yarbro stated among her reasons for choosing Bethel University were its proximity to home, the opportunity to play two sports, and Bethel's reputation as a training ground for tomorrow's educators.
Coach Monte Cunningham looks forward to Yarbro joining his squad in the fall of 2010. Coach Cunningham states, "Erica is an excellent driver of the golf ball with a wealth of untapped potential. She will be a tremendous asset to our program."
