St. Charles, Mo. (11.04.09) - The Bethel Lady Wildcats soccer team was unable to overcome a two goal deficit against the Lady Lions of Lindenwood University losing 2-1. The Lady Lions scored twice in the second half just four minutes apart and Bethel scored with 12 minutes remaining but was unable to knot the score in regulation.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, the two teams picked up the pace in the second. Midway through the half, McKenzie Creamer was fouled inside the box and put the Lady Lions up 1-0 with a penalty kick score. Minutes later, Creamer would find senior Ashley Tankersley, who slipped one past the Bethel goalie, pushing the Lindenwod lead to two.
Maryse Beauregard would score shortly after for Bethel and nearly netted a second goal, but Lindenwood's Erin Sage made a diving save to maintain the one goal lead.
Bethel is 4-5-5 as the regular season concludes. The Lady Wildcats will be hosting Cumberland University in the first round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 2:00pm. Bethel defeated Cumberland in Lebanon, Tenn. 8-1 on Friday, October 30, 2009.
