FRESNO, Calif. (12.01.09) - Bethel's attempt at repeating their 2008 National Championship came to an end in their NAIA Men's Soccer Championship Second Round match against Simon Fraser (B.C.) at Ramirez Field. The Clan scored in the fifth minute and again in the 33rd minute as all the scoring happened in the first half. Bethel had chances in the second half but played a man down after the 36th minute putting them at a disadvantage.

In a game marked by fouls and yellow cards, the Clan got on the board in the fifth minute. Freshman forward Farhad Abdulgani tallied his fifth marker of the year, when he beat a defender along the sideline and found the right back side of the goal.

Simon Fraser (18-3) was aided by a Bethel miscue. Trying to clear the ball from the left-side of the box, Bethel defender Emil Dorgeloh headed the ball and it directed in to the net. With 8:54 showing on the clock in the first half, Simon Fraser now led 2-0.

Overall, Bethel was faced with five yellow cards while SFU was given one. The big blow for Bethel came in the 36th minute when Daniel Green was whistled for his second yellow of the game. From that point on, the Wildcats were forced to play one player short.

Bethel took eight shots and Simon Fraser totaled 15.

Bethel, a team that went undefeated for 31 straight matches stretching out until Nov. 13, ends its year with a 15-2-3 record.
