MCKENZIE, Tenn. (01.18.10) - The Bethel Wildcats held a lead over the visiting Cumberland University Bulldogs for the majoring of the game, but Bethel faded late and fell 62-56. Bethel was undone by a huge disparity in fouls; Bethel attempted just eight free throws compared to Cumberland's 29 free throws.

The first half was a defensive battle with the Wildcats holding the Bulldogs to just 30% from the floor. Bethel hit 44% and was able to take a 24-20 lead to the locker room at the half. Erin Harris led the ‘Cats with six points; Chris Walker led with five assists; and Daniel Doyle with four rebounds in the first half.

Bethel held the lead until just 3:12 remained. The lopsidedness of the fouls was very apparent in the second frame as Cumberland took 23 free throws, converting 19 while Bethel was put on the line just eight times making six. And the rebounding advantage Bethel held in the first (21-12) was reversed in the second with Cumberland grabbing 22 to Bethel's 10.

Donald "Trey" Harris led with 13 points. He had five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Andre Crudup had 11 points, two rebounds and one assist. Eddie King, Daniel Doyle and Erin Harris each finished with six points.

Bethel falls even to 9-9 on the season and 1-3 in the TranSouth Conference. The Wildcats will be on the road in Mayfield, Ky. to play the Cougars of Mid-Continent University at Mayfield High School on Thursday, January 21, 2009 at 8:00pm. Then the ‘Cats return home to host the Scots of Lyon College on Saturday, January 23, 2009 with tip-off set for 4:00pm.
