PULASKI, Tenn. (01.28.10) - Bethel's match-up with Martin Methodist College was important to the Lady Wildcats as they close out their first trip through TranSouth Conference play. The teams were coming off two completely different weeks. The Lady RedHawks notched an upset win over then #6 Freed-Hardeman University and low scoring affair with Cumberland University. Bethel was returning to action after being upset by Lyon College. But, Bethel rebounded in a big way with a 72-52 win over hosting Martin Methodist.
 

After giving up the opening basket, Bethel scored the next 17 straight points to take a 17-3 lead. The Lady ‘Cats would open their biggest lead with Tristian Johnson's bucket at 6:38 putting Bethel up 28-8. They would again extend the lead to 20, as Kelsey Hamilton found the bottom of the net for a 32-12 score at 3:08. Martin chipped away to close to within 12 at the half with Bethel leading 33-21. As a team, Bethel held the advantage in turnovers as MMC had 14 t BU's 8 and in steals with BU with 12 and MMC with 7. Individually, Kashundria Berry led the offense with eight points, one assist and one steal. Nina Djokovic added seven points, five rebounds and one assist. Jana Roney also had seven points.

The second half was much of the same but Martin did make a run at Bethel closing the game to nine, 48-39 with 10:39 remaining in the contest. That is the closest the Lady RedHawks would get. Bethel jumped back out to a 16-point advantage on Teena Carter's three pointer at 5:52. The Lady ‘Cats left no doubt closing out the game with a 20-point advantage.

Nina Djokovic recorded her 12th double-double of the year with a team leading 17 points and 12 rebounds. Berry finished with her biggest offensive game of the year with 16 points; she added four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Roney had 12 points, five rebounds, one assist and two steals. Carter had 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Bethel's game at Freed-Hardeman originally scheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2009 has been rescheduled for Monday, February 1, 2009 at 6:00pm. Then on Thursday, February 4, 2009 at 6:00pm the Lady Wildcats welcome #1 Union University. It will be "Pick Out Night" for breast cancer.
