HENDERSON, Tenn. (02.01.10) - In an important top 25 match-up, the #21 Bethel University Lady Wildcats final shot rimmed off to the left as time expired against the #15 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions as they fell 68-67. With just six seconds remaining, Teena Carter got a good look at the basket, but could not convert and Nina Djokovic's put-back hit the iron but dropped off.
 

It took awhile for the Lady ‘Cats to get things started against FHU falling behind 16-8. But, Bethel went on a 10-3 run to close to within one, 19-18 on Anna Trull's three-pointer with 10:07 remaining in the first. A mere thirty seconds later and Bethel claimed the lead on Trull's basket, 20-19. Teams traded back and forth with the score knotted up at 35-35 at the break. Bethel's shooting did improve as they hit 40% from the floor in the first to Freed's 47%. One big advantage for Freed was that they attempted 16 free throws; Bethel only had six tries. Djokovic led with 11 points and five rebounds. Kashundria Berry had eight.

With the teams tied to start the half, the game tittered with the score tying 10 times in the second. Bethel carried the largest lead in the second frame at six, 49-43; Freed's largest advantage was three. Bethel had a four point lead, 66-62 on Djokovic's basket with just 1:59 left. From that point, Freed went on a 6-1 run to claim the victory.

Djokovic finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals; all while she was saddled with four fouls for most of the second half. Berry had 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Carter had 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals. Trull had seven, Jovana Petrovic and Jana Roney each had six.

Bethel falls to 13-8 (4-4) on the season. Bethel will host #1 Union University on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 6:00pm. It will be "Pink Out" night as all proceeds from t-shirts will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
