The Bethel College men’s soccer team earned an important 4-0 road conference win over Cumberland University.  Early scoring and continued pressure paced the Wildcats to the victory.

After coming off two heartbreaking double overtime losses, the best cure for the Wildcats was to get on the scoreboard early.  That’s exactly what they got when Felix Olale scored in the ninth minute on an assist from Sean Frazier.  The Wildcat’s defense was also a factor in the win allowing only four shots on goal.  Bethel really took control in the 28th minute as Armondo Orozco fired a bullet from 25 yards out and a 2-0 lead.

It was much of the same in the second half as the Wildcats continued to dictate the pace of the game.  In the 56th minute Orozco scored his second of the day on an assist from Olale and Bethel was comfortably ahead 3-0.  Then came what many players referred to as the “shot of the season” as Alexandre Nicolau blasted a rocket shot from 20 yards out to the top right corner of the goal.  Vedran Huzbasic assisted on the play.  Nicolau played for the Wildcat’s tennis team and is using his remaining year of eligibility to play on the soccer team.

Andrew Pennycook stopped all four shots he faced in picking up the shutout win.

Bethel will be on the road this coming Saturday, September 22, 2007 to continue conference play against Crichton College in Memphis.  Game time is set for 4:00pm.
