
Game One
Jordon Smith threw four innings giving up one run on six hits and stirking out three. Jon Patterson picked up the save by going three innings allowing no hits and striking out five.
With the good work on the mound, Bethel broke out the long ball sticks. In the first with one out Craig Massey got it started with a deep double to left-center. Jonathan Deberry singled and stole second. Jake Ramsey's single drove in Massey; Courtney Hardaway hit a two run double to center giving the ‘Cats a 3-0 lead after one. Bethel blew it wide open in the second, Zach Tippett singles, Hunter Deberry got a bunt single and after two outs, J. Deberry blasted a three-run homer to right center giving Bethel a 6-0 lead after two innings. HSSU got a run back in the top of the third for a 6-2 score. Bethel removed any doubt as to the outcome in the third. Hardaway led off with a walk; Alex Jackson took a free pass, Tippitt's grounder was misplayed to load the bases. Hunter Deberry launched a long homer down the right field line for a grand slam and the ‘Cats led 10-1. With Patterson shutting the door, Bethel came away with the victory.
Game Two
The Wildcats got another offensive explosion in the final game and two pitchers split the contest for the win. Joey Wilder hurled three innings allowing four runs, three earned on two hits; he struck out four and walked three. Jacob Hatchel pitched three scoreless innings allowing two hits, one walk and struck out three while picking up the save.
The Hornets scored a run in the first, but Bethel came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Bryson Horner walked and advanced to third on J. Debbery's single; Ramsey hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Horner; J. Deberry scored on a wild pitch giving BU a 2-1 lead. Then Bethel scored a touchdown and an extra point in the second. Tippitt singled to left; Jordan Stack reached on a bunt single. Horner bunted and reached second on a wild throw, Tippitt scored, Stack moved to third. Craig Massey singled to right-center, Stack scored, Horner scored. J. Deberry bunted and reached on a base hit, Ramsey singled to load the bases. Billy Keck walked; Massey scored; Tyler Roberson singled to left, J. Deberry scored; with two on, Tippitt doubled to left-center scoring Ramsey and Keck. Bethel was ahead 9-1. Harris Stowe put a dent in the lead in the top of the third scoring three times. With a 9-4 lead, Bethel plated three more in the fourth. Hardaway singled to lead off the inning. Keck was hit by a pitch; a passed ball got Adams who was running for Hardaway to third; Roberson walked to load the bases. Tippitt hit a two run single; another passed ball and JD Newson who was pitch running scored for a 12-4 Bethel lead. The Wildcats finished the game in the sixth as Stack singled to right; Horner walked, Massey walked to load the bases. J. Deberry walked, Stack scored; Ramsey hit a sacrifice fly to left, Horner scored to end the game.
Bethel is 4-0-1 on the season. The Wildcats will host the Bear of Pikeville College (Ky.) this coming Friday, February 26, 2010 at 1:00pm for a single game and will play a double header on Saturday, February 27, 2010 beginning at 12:00pm.
