MCKENZIE, Tenn. (02.26.10) - The Bethel Wildcats picked up their fifth TranSouth Conference victory of the year with a 39-33 win over the visiting RedHawks of Martin Methodist College. Bethel took the lead late in the first half and never relinquished it.
Bethel and Martin kept the score close for 15:42 of the first half. Then Bethel went on a 13-2 run to take a 10-point, 37-27 lead. That lead would stick all the way to the end of the contest. The RedHawks cut the lead down to six as Bethel held the lead 39-33 at the break. Artomie Dixon led the first half effort with nine points. Erin Harris, returning from an injury pitched in with eight points and five rebounds in the first. Andre Crudup added seven.
Bethel went on a 15-4 run in the middle of the second half to open their largest lead of the contest, 18-points, 67-49. Martin Methodist would get as close as seven, but small 9-4 run with :51 remaining to keep the RedHawks playing catch up. Eddie King led the Wildcats with 14 points in the second and Crudup added 13.
For the game Bethel shot 47% from the field and converted 77% of their free throws.
Crudup led Bethel with 20 points; he had seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. King had 17 points, two boards, one assist and three steals. Erin Harris had 12 points, six rebounds and two assists. Dixon finished with nine points. Marcus McElrath led the team with 10 rebounds.
Bethel is 13-16 (5-10) on the year. Bethel will host the Lions of Freed-Hardeman this coming Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 4:00pm. Prior to the game Bethel will celebrate Senior Day. Bethel sees six seniors departing after this season, they are: Eddie King, Artomie Dixon, Marcus McElrath, Phillip White, Jay Cockrell and Otakar Schober.
