Bethel's Erin Harris hits a jump shot over Freed-Hardeman's Zack Frey
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (02.27.10) - Bethel was not able to fully get on track in their 86-68 loss to the visiting Lions of Freed-Hardeman University. With the loss, Bethel will be the #7 seed in the TranSouth Conference Tournament. Bethel will play #2 seeded Mid-Continent University on the road in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 4, 2010; time for the tip-off has not been set.
 

Bethel went ahead twice by one-point early in the first half, but those would be the only leads they would carry in the game. As it has been several times, FHU's Zack Frey continued to be a difficult match-up. Frey scored 14 points in the first half. Bethel's Andre Crudup tried to keep pace scoring 10 points in the first frame. Erin Harris got two of his six first half points to give Bethel a one-point lead with 12:33 left. But, the Lions went on an 11-0 run to take a 22-12 lead with 10:35 remaining. Donald "Trey" Harris basket at 9:15 got Bethel to within three, 22-19 but that is as close as Bethel would get for the rest of the game. FHU went on a 12-4 swing to open another double digit lead. Bethel was 1 of 7 from three-point range and only got to the foul line two times in the first. At the break Bethel trailed 44-34.

It was an 11-2 run by FHU in the middle of the second half that put the game away for the Lions as they went up by 21-points, 73-52. Erin Harris put in a good second half for the Wildcats scoring nine points in the second. Bethel struggled shooting the ball hitting 38% while Freed hit 55%.

Erin Harris led the Wildcats with 15 points; he added one assist, one block and one steal. Crudup had 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals. Eddie King had eight points, three rebounds and three assists. Daniel Doyle had seven points, four rebounds and one steal. Donald Harris had six points and one rebound.

Bethel the start of the game, the six seniors were recognized for their contributions to the men's basketball program. They were: Eddie King (Miami, Fla.), Artomie Dixon (Wynne, Ark.), Marcus McElrath (Marietta, Ga.), Phillip White (Chicago, Ill.), Jay Cockrell (Orlando, Fla.) and Otakar Schober (Jihlava, Czech Republic).
