MAYFIELD, Ky. (03.04.10) - The seventh seeded Bethel Wildcats season came to a close with an 83-69 loss to the second seeded Cougars of Mid-Continent University in the quarterfinals of the TranSouth Conference Tournament. Bethel ends the season with a record of 13-18 (5-11), finishing seventh overall in the conference.
Bethel was shooting well in the first half when they did get an opportunity to shoot. In the first half, the Wildcats hit 50% from the field (11 of 22) and 3 of 5 from behind the arc. They also made their free throws count hitting 88% (7 of 8). But, Bethel committed 15 turnovers in the first opposed to Mid-Continent's eight. Daniel Doyle led the ‘Cats offensive effort with 11 points. Doyle was perfect from the free throw line hitting all six of his shots. Andre Crudup had nine points. Bethel briefly grabbed a two point advantage with Donald "Trey" Harris' three ball at 12:18. However, MCU went on a 9-0 run to take a 21-14 lead with 8:55 left in the first.
The theme was almost identical in the second half as Bethel still shot fairly well 42% from the field and 5 of 8 from three point range. But MCU still held the advantage in turnovers with the Wildcats committing nine in the second. For the game, Bethel was only able to take 46 shots compared to MCU's 77 shots. Crudup continued to have success offensively scoring 17 of Bethel's 37 second half points in the second. MCU went up by 20 points but then the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to get to within 12 with 4:44 remaining. But, BU wasn't able to get another push before the final buzzer.
Crudup led all scorers with 26 points. He had five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Doyle had 16 points and seven rebounds. Cameron Clemons had seven points, two rebounds and one assist. Trey Harris had six points, one rebound and one block. Eddie King had five points, four rebounds and two assists.
