NASHVILLE, Tenn. (03.04.10) - The Bethel University Lady Wildcats softball team was swept in a double header with Trevecca Nazarene University losing 8-5 and 8-0. Trevecca came from behind to claim game one and Bethel never got on track in game two.
Game One
Bethel plated five runs in the second inning. With one run in, Bethel second baseman Shelby Cummings launched a grand slam giving the Lady ‘Cats a 5-0 lead. But, Bethel would not score again for the remainder of the game. TNU scored one in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in sixth.
Bethel starting pitcher Leah Hensley went all six innings, allowing 13 hits, eight runs, only four earned. She walked five and struck out one.
Cummings was 2 for 4 with four RBI and a run scored. Katie Pacific was 2 of 3. Morgan Berry was 0 for 1 with two walks and a run scored. Kasey Winsett was 1 for 3 with a run scored. Lindsey Davis was 1 for 4 with a run scored. Ashley Simmons and Brittany Edmonds were each 1 for 4.
Game Two
TNU scored in every inning except the fifth as Amber Metzger had a tough outing on the mound. Metzger went five innings, allowing nine hits, six runs, five earned; she walked four and struck out two. Katie Ervin threw 0.1 innings giving up three hits, two runs and walked one.
The offense struggled against Lady Trojan pitcher, Lauren Baker managaing just three singles in six innings. Ashton Carahan, Edmonds and Pacifici all had a hit.
Bethel is 1-3 on the season. They will be in Orange Beach, Ala. For Spring Break. On March, 12, 2010 they will play Oklahoma Christian University at 9:30am. Then will play Lee University at 1:00pm. On March 13, 2010 they will play Spring Hill College at 9:00am and Grand View College at 1:00pm. Opponents and times are to be decided for games on March 14, 2010.
