MCKENZIE, Tenn. (03.11.10) - The Bethel In-Line hockey program has added its second signee to the inaugural team, forward Lance Shavchuk. Shavchuk is also is a Specialist with the Tennessee National Guard in Paris, Tenn. He serves with the 212 Engineers and served 10 months in Iraq in 2002. She is the son of Margaret Shavchuk.
"I'm thrilled to have Lance on our team," said Bethel Head In-Line coach Matt Swinea. "Lance is extremely fast on skates. He will create all kinds of problems for opposing teams with his speed. Lance has not come close to reaching his potential in hockey and it will be fun watching him get there. Being able to offer this opportunity to someone who serves our country is extra special. I am excited and I know Lance is too."
Shavchuk has been playing in-line hockey for the last 12 years. He has previously played in the Clarksville In-line League, the West Tennessee In-line Adult League and various in-line tournaments. He has taken part in Ironman tournaments and recently skated on a team in a TooHot 4Ice Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Shavchuk brings his speed and his tenacity to the Bethel University team. He hopes to improve on passing and his stick handling while playing for the Wildcats.
Shavchuk graduated from Henry County High School. He plans on majoring in Elementary Education while at Bethel.
