BIG SANDY, Tenn. (04.08.10) - Bethel University's Cross Country and Triathlon teams have added Michael Holt of Big Sandy High School. Holt has been a state team qualifier in cross country for three years. He is the son of Mike and Carrie Holt.
"We are very excited Michael will be joining our team," said Bethel University Head Cross Country Coach Brandon Kilburn. "He has achieved a great deal in his high school career. We believe he will continue to have great success with us in his four years here."
Holt has been the lead runner for Big Sandy since the team was formed in 2006. Holt has qualified for state competition for four years, placing in the top ten in regional competition each year. In 2009, he placed 20th in the state TSSAA Championships. He set a personal mark in the 5K at 17:11 and 28:47 in the five mile. Holt looks to build his base miles and training schedule while at Bethel.
Holt has been a member of the Spanish and Art Clubs at Big Sandy. He was being recruited by The University of Tennessee at Martin and David Lipscomb University. He chose Bethel because it is a small school, rural and community bases like Big Sandy.
While at Bethel, Holt plans on majoring in Pre-Dentistry.
