MURRAY, Ky. (04.08.10) - Living up to their nickname, the Racers of Murray State used their speed to take two games from the Lady Wildcats. Bethel lost game one 6-2 in game one committing three errors and lost game two 6-1 with two errors. This was the first meeting of the two schools and Murray is in its first year of playing softball.
Game One
The Racers jumped out to a big lead early scoring two in the first, three in the third and on in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. But, Bethel avoided the shutout with a two RBI bases loaded double by Ashley Simmons in the sixth. Bethel's starting pitcher Leah Hensley went the distance allowing nine hits, six runs, only one earned; she walked five and struck out two.
Simmons was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI. Brittany Edmonds was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Katie Pacific was 1 for 1. Amanda Renfroe walked twice and scored a run.
Game Two
Bethel's offense struggled in game two managing only two hits and one run. On the mound Katie Ervin went 3.2 innings allowing five runs on five hits; she walked four and struck out one. Ashton Carnahan went 2.1 innings allowing one run on four hits; she struck out one.
Edmonds was 1 for 2 with a walk. Lindsey Davis was 1 for 4 with a run scored. Morgan Berry was 1 for 3.
The Lady Wildcats are 15-16 (2-6) on the year. Bethel returns to conference play as they travel to Mayfield, Ky. to play the Lady Cougars of Mid-Continent University on Friday, April 10, 2010. In their previous match-up this season, the teams split a double header.
