MCKENZIE, Tenn. (04.13.10) - The Bethel Lady Wildcats won game one of their twinbill with the Lady Bulldogs of Union University 3-1. They lost a heartbreaker in game two, but it took 10 innings to decide the winner, 4-3. The 10-inning game was the longest of the season for the Lady ‘Cats.
 

Game One

Union took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then Bethel pitcher, Leah Hensley, scattered six hits over the next six innings on her way to picking up the complete game win. That held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless the rest of the way and gave time for the offense to post runs.

Lindsey Davis led off with a single; Brittany Edmonds hit a sacrifice bunt moving Davis to second; Amanda Renfroe lined a RBI single to right to tie the game 1-1; With Renfroe at second Katie Pacific hit a RBI double to left and Bethel took the lead 2-1.

The Lady ‘Cats got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Edmonds led the inning off with a double to lead off the inning; Renfroe followed with a single; Jennifer Townson delivered a sacrifice bunt moving runners to second and third; that allowed Edmonds to score on Pacifici's fielder's choice and Bethel closed out the game in the seventh for the 3-1 win.

Game Two

Bethel took an early lead and held the lead twice but with the international tie-breaker rule Union was able to plate the winning run in the 10th. The international tie-breaker rule places the last out from the previous inning at second base to start the current inning. Hensley went the distance on the mound throwing 123 pitches and allowing 16 hits. Hensley allowed four runs, but only three were earned, she walked two and struck out two.

Bethel took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Amanda Renfroe walked to lead off the inning and with one out scored when Shelby Cummings blasted a homer to left.

Union tied the game in the top of the third but Bethel took the lead again in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Ashley Simmons hit a solo home run to left to give the Lady Wildcats a 3-2 lead.

But Union was able to tie the score in the top of the seventh with a solo homer. Then in the 10th, Union was able to plate a run on a single.

Bethel is 17-18 (3-7) on the season. They will be busy and on the road for the next week. On Thursday, April 15, 2010 the Lady Wildcats will play a double header against Williams Baptist College at 2:00pm. On Friday, April 16, 2010 the Lady ‘Cats will be in Batesville, Ark. to play a twinbill against Lyon College starting at 2:00pm. On Saturday, they will stop and play Central Baptist College for a double header starting at 12:00pm. On Monday, Bethel will finish conference play when they go to Pulaski, Tenn. tio play Martin Methodist College with game time starting at 3:00pm.
