PARIS, Tenn. (04.15.10) - The Bethel women's basketball program has added Henry County guard Katie VanDyke to the 2010 class. VanDyke has been a four year player for the Lady Patriots and is the daughter of Eddie and Any VanDyke.

"Katie has a high basketball I.Q.," said Bethel University head women's basketball coach Chris Nelson. "She fits nice with our style of play and our returners. Katie has been on our radar for the last three years and it feels good to finally seal the deal with a great local talent."

As a senior this past season, VanDyke averaged 12 points per game, four assists, two rebounds and two steals. She hit 40% of her shots from 3-point range. She was All-District 10AAA and All-Tournament 10AAA this past year. VanDyke considers her shooting as her biggest strength and hopes to improve on her defense and her mental approach while at Bethel.

VanDyke is also a good and active student. She earned the All-American Scholar honor. She also was a member of the Science Club, Spanish Club, Student Council and was Secretary of the Senior Class.

VanDyke was considering Freed-Hardeman University but choose Bethel because of the coaches, players, atmosphere and because it was close to home. She is undecided on her intended major.
