MCKENZIE, Tenn. (04.24.10) - Although the game was rained out, the spirits were not dampened as the Bethel University softball team recognized their two outgoing seniors. Amber Metzger and Ashley Simmons were honored for their service to the softball program by Head Coach Larry Geraldi and the team.

"Bethel, the softball team and myself have been blessed with two outstanding ladies with strong Christian values," said Geraldi. "Both young ladies have been an example for all of us to follow."

Metzger is a pitcher from Oxford, Miss. She suffered a season ending injury recently but that has not stopped her enthusiasm for her teammates. Geraldi noted she is the ultimate teammate, behind her team at all times. Geraldi also said she gave her all on and off the field. But his proudest moment was when Metzger invited him and his wife Rita to hear her sing at Metzger's church; he said he wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Simmons, who goes by the nickname of "Dirt", was also praised by Geraldi. He said she led by example and no matter what the score was she gave it her all. He told her that he felt that she would be successful in anything she set her mind to do.
