MCKENZIE, Tenn. (November 30, 2007) – The Bethel Wildcats won their opening game of the Roy N. Baker Classic defeating Central Baptist College (AR) 75-60. Three Wildcats hit double digits in the win.

The Wildcats weren’t exactly tearing it up from the floor shooting on Friday night in the first half, but they did get nine more shots than the Mustangs. Bethel was 14 of 35 (40%), but was 3 of 9 on threes. Central’s shooting wasn’t much better as they were 12 of 26 (46%), but they only hit one for six on threes. The Wildcats’ Hrvoje Devcic came off the bench to pour in 13 points in the first half, as Bethel took a 34-28 advantage to the locker room.

Bethel really picked up the shooting percentage in the second shooting 18 of 35 (51%). Leon Sewell flushed 13 point in the second half; he was 6 of 8 from the floor. Brian French added seven in the second as he was a perfect 3 of 3 shooting. Derek Demaree put in eight second half points, going 4 of 5. Bethel held the advantage in 2nd chance points 10-2 and bench points 17-6.

But, Head Coach Jeff Britt said that if anyone deserved a game ball is was Clint Blackburn. “Clint did a great job on the defensive side of the ball. He shut down their biggest offensive threat,” said Britt. Blackburn’s job on the night was front the Mustang’s, Jay Best. Blackburn held Best under his season average as Best still managed 20 on the night to lead Central.

Sewell led all scorers with 22 points, seven boards and one assist. Devcic had 18 points and three rebounds. Demaree also hit double digits with 10 points, four rebounds and one assist. Brian French ended the night with nine points, four boards and five assists. Blackburn had six points, five rebounds and five assists.

Bethel is 4-1 on the season and will resume play in the Roy N. Baker Classic on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 6:00pm against Southeastern Bible College (AL).
