MCKENZIE, Tenn. (06.09.10)-The Bethel University Men's bowling team signed two outstanding bowlers from White Station High School in Memphis Wednesday.

Justin Essary and Matthew Smith will join the bowling Cats this fall. They are the sons of Kim and Danny Smith of Memphis.

Justin will be a nursing major while Matthew will major in computer programming.

Justin was a four year starter in high school. He had the highest average in the Junior League in 2008 and finished third in the state in 2009. He bowled a career game high of 299 earlier this year.

He won the district and region three years in a row.

Matthew was the Rookie of the Year in 2006. He was city champion three years. He made it to the state tournament three years in a row. He averaged 181.5 this past season.

Both feel like they are team players and are excited about being members of Bethel's first bowling team.

Both chose Bethel because of academic reasons and it being close to home.

Bethel Head Coach Clay Boyd said, "These are two fine student-athletes from a really good family. We are excited they chose Bethel to continue their education and careers. They will be key members of our team."
