Softball Falls to BMC on Senior Day
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats played host to the Blue Mountain Lady Toppers in a doubleheader at Lady Wildcat Park Tuesday.
It was Senior Day for ten Lady Cats. Kinsley Caruthers, Anna Robinson, Ella Floyd, Riley Sharp, Amelia Sherrill, Fallyn Jordan, Kinsley Nichols, Jada Wynn, Ashley Aldridge, and Amme Benson were honored and saluted in ceremonies between the games.
Despite flashes of defensive brilliance and a home run spark, the Lady Cats struggled to contain a potent Topper offense, dropping both contests to the visitors.
Game 1:
BMCU 11, Bethel 1- In the afternoon opener, the Lady Cats found themselves in an early hole as BMCU's disciplined eye at the plate led to four runs in the first two innings. Bethel starter Kinsley Caruthers battled through a tough opening frame, but the Toppers' relentless pressure forced an early call to the bullpen for Amelia Sherrill. The highlight of the game for the home crowd came from the bat of Riley Sharp. In the bottom of the sixth, Sharp connected on a solo blast over the fence, providing the Lady Cats' lone run and momentarily breaking up the shutout. However, BMCU responded with a nine-hit barrage over the final two frames. Bethel's defense, led by Kinsley Nichols (who snagged two flyouts in center), tried to keep the game within reach, but the Toppers' Maryn Macri (3 RBI) and Laklyn Nichols (2 RBI) proved too much to handle. • Lady Cat Standouts: Riley Sharp (HR, RBI), Kinsley Nichols (2-for-4), Amelia Sherrill (1-for-3, 5.2 IP in relief).
Game 2: BMCU 12, Bethel 0 (5 Innings) The nightcap started as a much tighter affair. Maleyia Prather took the circle for the Lady Cats and held the Toppers scoreless through the first inning. The turning point came in the second inning when BMCU's Kelsey Camp broke the game open with a grand slam. That swing ignited an eight-run barrage the Lady Cats couldn't recover from. Karma Wilky entered in relief and stabilized the game for three innings, allowing only two earned runs and striking out one, but the Bethel bats couldn't close the gap against BMCU's Neely Cooper and Jana Shaw. The Lady Cats showed life in the later innings, with Amme Benson going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and Briley Auvenshine adding a base hit, but Bethel ultimately left five runners stranded in the abbreviated five-inning contest. • Lady Cat Standouts: Amme Benson (2-for-2), Kinsley Nichols (2-for-3), Briley Auvenshine (1-for-2). While the scoreboard wasn't in Bethel's favor today, the Lady Cats showed resilience, particularly with a 5-hit performance in Game 2 and error-free play from several key positions. The squad will head back to the practice field to sharpen the bats before their next conference showdown.
Bethel dropped to 10-22 while (RV) BMCU improved to 27-9-1.
The Lady Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday hosting Lane College at 3 and 5 p.m.
