Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Oakland City
OAKLAND CITY, Ind. –After splitting a doubleheader back in February in McKenzie, the Bethel Wildcats and the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City squared off again Tuesday, this time at Pinnick Field in Oakland City. The Mighty Oaks protected their home field with a twin bill sweep. Oak City won 3-0 and 3-2.
The Wildcats managed just one hit in game one. Oakland City scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to win. The Mighty Oaks had seven hits. Bryan Catala had the lone hit for the Wildcats in the top of the sixth. Oak City's Ben Simmons went the distance and picked up the win throwing only 79 pitches in the game. Bethel's Noah Willingham pitched well but suffered the loss. Bethel committed four errors in the loss.
The Mighty Oaks again took the lead in game two. Oakland City scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings. The Wildcats scored an unearned run in the fifth. Wyatt McKee doubled in a run in the sixth.
Kyle Lambert suffered the loss but gave up just one hit as Bethel outhit the Oaks 6-1. The Cats left seven men on base. John Boren pitched two shutouts inning for the Wildcats. Both teams committed four errors in the game.
Bethel has lost five in a row and dropped to 8-15 on the year. Oakland City moved to 18-13 on the season and 12-5 in home games.
The Wildcats are back in action this weekend traveling to Columbia, Kentucky for a three-game series at Lindsey Wilson. The two MSC foes will a play a single game Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader at noon Saturday.
