Bat Cats Sweep Doubleheader over Georgetown

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats played host to the Georgetown Tigers in Mid-South Conference action Saturday.

The Bat Cats opened their series in strong fashion sweeping the Tigers in a doubleheader at Wildcat Park, using late-game execution in game one and an offensive explosion in game two to secure the Mid-South Conference victories.

 Game 1: Bethel 6, Georgetown 5-
The Bat Cats rallied late to take the opener, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback and edge Georgetown 6-5.

Trailing 5-2 entering the final inning, Bethel put together a clutch rally behind key hits from CJ Lattimore and Juan Diego Ramos. Lattimore finished with two hits and an RBI, while Ramos drove in two runs. Galvin Sims and Cade Pilkinton also added RBIs in the win.

 On the mound, Zachary Zimmer went 5.1 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) while striking out five. Klayton Wright was dominant in relief, striking out four over 1.2 shutout innings to give Bethel a chance to complete the comeback.

 Game 2: Bethel 9, Georgetown 7
-Bethel's offense came alive in game two, highlighted by a six-run second inning that proved to be the difference in a 9-7 win and the doubleheader sweep

. CJ Lattimore led the way with three hits and four RBIs, while Evan Cardwell added two hits and an RBI. Adriel Vega, Tyler Webb, and Juan Diego Ramos also drove in runs as Bethel totaled 11 hits in the nightcap.

On the mound, Walker Ward picked up the win after tossing six innings and allowing four runs. The bullpen of Matt Ray, Klayton Wright, and Peyton Martin combined to finish the game and secure the sweep.

 Coach Rusty Thompson said, "I'm really proud of how we competed today. Game one showed a lot of toughness from our guys to keep fighting and find a way to win late, and then to come back and put up a big inning in game two was huge. That's the kind of effort and approach we need to have every time we take the field."

The sweep moves Bethel to 9-16 overall and 3-2 in Mid-South Conference play.

 The Tigers are 8-19 and 1-7. Georgetown is 3-8 in road games this year. GC has lost seven games in a row.

The teams wrap up the series on Sunday with the first pitch in the single game   scheduled for 1 p.m.
