Bethel’s Lewis Named Mid-South Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Bethel's Darrien Lewis was named the Mid-South Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

Pinnacle Financial Partners sponsors the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Award program. Pinnacle Financial Partners was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with banks in eight states in the southeast United States.

 MSC Football Defensive Player of the Week

Darrien Lewis – Bethel (Tenn.) – Sr. – Linebacker – Brighton, Tenn.

 Lewis led the Bethel defense with 16 tackles in a 28-24 win over visiting Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday.

 He finished the game with six solo tackles and a tackle for a loss.

  Lewis added an interception and helped the Wildcats' defense to a goal-line stand late in the game to preserve the win.

  He leads the Mid-South Conference, averaging 10 tackles per game and is second in the conference with 5-1/2 tackles for a loss.

With the win, Bethel improves to 3-2 on the season, including winning three straight games.

 He earns his first weekly conference honor of his career.
