Bethel University’s Caleb Nue wins Bill Dance Giant Bass Open

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Bethel University's Caleb Nue fished for two days in competition with other adult anglers from across the region and came out crowned the champion angler from The Bill Dance Giant Bass Open this past weekend on Kentucky Lake.

The format of this event was the biggest bass by weight, brought into the weigh- in scales each session. The biggest bass brought into the scales for the two-day event was also a part of deciding the championship.

The tournament had seven different sessions each day throughout the two-day event for a total of fourteen sessions. Caleb weighed fish in five of the fourteen sessions totaling his winning purse with over seven thousand dollars in prize money which also included the overall championship trophy.

Nue caught a seven-pound largemouth bass on day one of the event. That fish was the biggest catch of day one. Going into day two, many anglers came to the scale to try in attempt of knocking Caleb out of the winner's circle but at the closing of the scales, on Sunday the Bethel University standout angler's fish remained as the largest fish caught during the two-day event.

"We are very proud of Caleb and his win over all of the other great anglers fishing this event," said Bethel University Head Fishing Coach Garry Mason. Coach Mason added, "To compete on that level and on the huge waters of Kentucky Lake just shows how great of a young angler Caleb is turning out to become."

"This tournament was not a college event; however, our guys can compete in adult open tournaments at any time as long as it doesn't interfere with college activities or the classroom," said Mason.

The Bethel Wildcats will be in competition on Kentucky Lake this upcoming Saturday and Sunday as they compete in the ACA Big Bass Bash. Weigh ins will be going on throughout the day on both days at Paris Landing State Park Marina.
