Wildcats Drop Home Affair to Patriots

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The University of the Cumberlands topped Bethel University 81-59 on Thursday night in Crisp Arena.

Bethel took an early lead 4-0 lead and led 6-4 before the Patriots grabbed a lead they would never relinquish. The Pats scooted out to a 37-27 margin at the half and would outscore the Cats 44-32 in the second half to take the convincing win.

Bethel shot 32 percent from the floor while CU shot 48 percent from the field.

In a physical game that saw 48 fouls called Bethel was 20-of-32 from the foul line while CU was 22-of-34 from the charity stripe. The Wildcats were 3-of-13 from deep while CU hit just five of 21 attempts from outside.

The Patriots had a 22-10 advantage in points off turnovers. Bethel committed 17 turnovers in the game.

Querrion Gadson led Bethel with 19 points. A J Burnett had 10 points. Jahi Hinson led the Patriots with a game high 22 points.

Bethel dropped to 12-9 overall and 8-8 in the MSC. The Pats improved to 14-8 and 8-8.

Coach Jeff Britt was not pleased with how his team performed. " We did not play well after the first few minutes and I am extremely disappointed with that. Cumberlands took it to us and our defense was simply not good at times. Credit them with taking it to us. We need to understand you have to be ready to play and execute in this league night in and night out."

The Wildcats will play host to No. 10 Georgetown on Saturday with tip-off slated for 3 p.m.
