Bio

Garrett Hicks joins Bethel University men’s basketball as a student assistant coach for the
2025–26 season, continuing a coaching journey that began at age 14. Over the past five years,
he has built experience in scouting, player development, and gameday operations while
learning under veteran coaches across the region.


Hicks began his coaching journey volunteering with YMCA youth basketball programs. His drive
and initiative soon led him to establish his own travel basketball program in southeast Missouri.
He also serves as the Assistant to the Director of the Rib City Shootouts, working under his
mentor **Chad Allen**, a 300+ win head coach, at one of the region’s most prominent summer
basketball tournament series.
A member of both the **National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) and USA Basketball
under the direction of Don Showalter, Hicks has gained invaluable experience through coaching
opportunities nationwide. He got his start working basketball camps across the country,
including the Jay Bilas Skills Camp**, where he worked alongside Jay Wright, Phil Martelli, Jay
Bilas, John Shulman, and ESPN’s Paul Biancardi He also spent time working the Three Rivers
Basketball Camp** and, at just 16 years old, began assisting with gameday operations for the
Three Rivers Community College basketball program under head coach Brian Bess and
assistant coach Trey Rakes.


Hicks has also held multiple coaching and operations roles at the high school level. He served
as Director of Scouting at Dexter High School** and managed day-to-day operations at Risco
High School where he both played for and studied under Coach Brandon Blankenship another
300+ win coach. During his time with both programs, Dexter and Risco each captured district
championships and advanced to the state playoffs. In addition, Hicks assisted with Gameday
preparation and scouting reports for several schools across Southeast Missouri gaining a
reputation as the “encyclopedia of Southeast Missouri sports.”


Over the past four years, Hicks has also worked with Aycorp Sports covering over 400
basketball games** and contributing to the company’s growth to over 12 million views
specializing in high school basketball analysis, game production, and statistics.
Beyond coaching, Hicks is also a certified basketball and baseball official in southeast Missouri,
which keeps him closely connected to local athletics and the development of young players. In
his free time, he enjoys watching baseball, spending time with other basketball coaches, and
being back in his hometown of Risco.


A 2025 graduate of Risco High School, Hicks is currently pursuing his degree at Bethel
University while contributing to the Wildcats’ basketball program.
