Cats Take the Sting out of the Hornets
ST. LOUIS, Mo. –The Bethel Wildcats won their seventh in a row with an 90-82 win over Harris Stowe State University in St. Louis Tuesday night.
Bethel moved to 8-1 while the Hornets lost their sixth in a row and dropped to 1-6.
The first half saw several lead changes and Harris Stowe lead at the break 42-41.
There were 14 lead changes in the game.
The Wildcats used a 16-4 run to open the second half to grab a 57-46 lead. The Hornets rallied and with five and half minutes left the game was tied at 69.
The Cats outscored the Hornets 21-13 in the closing minutes to win. Bethel shot 53 percent in the second half. Another key was Bethel's free throw shooting. The Cats were 19-of-23 from the foul line.
Chauncey Hughes III led the Cats with 19 points. He also had six steals, six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Eli Lewis came off the bench with 16 points. Brayden Nunnally had 11 points, Isiah Darden and Jackson Hayes had 10 points each.
The Wildcats had just nine turnovers in the game while forcing HSSU into 18 on the night.
Nashawn Davis had 25 to lead all scorers.
The Wildcats return home Saturday to host Oakland City at 3 p.m.
