Cats Battle Back on the Road to Earn Gritty Win
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Bethel University Wildcats showed resilience and toughness Thursday night, battling back on the road to defeat Campbellsville 78–75 at the Powell Athletic Center in a hard-fought conference showdown.
Facing an early deficit, Bethel weathered Campbellsville's strong first half and trailed 38–34 at the break. The Wildcats struggled to find rhythm from the perimeter early but stayed within striking distance by attacking the paint and competing on the glass.
The turning point came after halftime. Bethel erupted for 44 second-half points, shooting over 51 percent from the field and flipping the momentum with aggressive drives and disciplined execution.
The Wildcats dominated inside, scoring 48 points in the paint, repeatedly putting pressure on the Campbellsville defense. Jackson Hayes led the charge with a team-high 16 points while adding four assists and three steals. Hayes hit several clutch free throws in the last minute to enable the Cats to win.
Chauncey Hughes III delivered an all-around performance with 15 points and six assists, while Ethan Turner was a force on the interior, posting 14 points and eight rebounds. Isiah Darden recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, providing a crucial spark on both ends. Brayden Nunnally was perfect from the field, going 2-for-2 with a three-pointer, and David Starr added eight points off the bench as Bethel's depth played a key role in the comeback.
Campbellsville made a late push behind Dalton Kramer's 22 points, but Bethel's composure down the stretch sealed the victory. Key defensive stops and timely baskets allowed the Wildcats to protect the lead in the closing minutes.
"That was a grown man win on the road," Coach Jeff Britt said. "We didn't play our best early, but our guys stayed together, trusted the game plan, and really defended and attacked the paint in the second half. That's the kind of fight you need in this league."
Campbellsville dropped to 14-4 and 0-2.
With the win, Bethel improves to 16–3 overall and 2–1 in conference play. The Wildcats' ability to respond under pressure and win on the road showcased the grit and balance that continue to define their season.
Bethel stays in the Commonwealth with a game at Lindsey Wilson Saturday scheduled for 3 p.m.
