Jeff Britt – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Bethel University
Jeff Britt enters his 26th season as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Bethel University and his 37th overall at the collegiate level. A respected veteran of the game, Coach Britt has compiled an impressive career record of 537-388, placing him 10th among active NAIA Division I coaches in career wins.
Under his leadership, Bethel has enjoyed 11 seasons with 20 or more wins, including five consecutive winning seasons from 2001–2006 and nine from 2011–2020. His teams have consistently competed on the national stage, highlighted by a 2002 East Region Championship, two NAIA National Tournament appearances (2015, 2019) — including a Sweet Sixteen run in 2019 — and a KIAC Tournament runner-up finish.
Coach Britt’s impact extends beyond wins and losses. He has coached numerous NAIA All-Americans and proudly mentored 21 NAIA Academic All-Americans, with several players earning All-Conference honors. His 2004–05 team led the entire NAIA in Team Rebounding Margin, a category in which his teams have consistently ranked among the nation's best.
His coaching excellence has been recognized with multiple honors, including East Region Coach of the Year (2002) and TranSouth Conference Coach of the Year (2012–13). He has developed a strong coaching tree, with 12 former players entering the coaching profession, including six head coaches and three former assistants now serving as collegiate head coaches. Six former players have gone on to play professionally.
Before his tenure at Bethel, Britt spent five successful years at Saint Catharine College (KY), serving as Athletic Director, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, and Assistant Men’s Coach before taking over the men’s program. There, he posted a 108-43 record, leading the Patriots to four 20+ win seasons, NJCAA Top 20 rankings, and several school records. His teams were known for their high-scoring, up-tempo style, finishing 2nd in the nation in scoring (1997–98) and producing multiple NCAA Division I and II players. He was named KJCAA Coach of the Year (1995–96).
Coach Britt began his coaching career as a student assistant at Brescia College, where he was a four-year letterman, two-time MVP and captain, and still holds multiple school records including all-time leading scorer and rebounder. He later served as top assistant at Lindsey Wilson College under Coach Tom Wethington.
A native of Sedalia, Kentucky, Britt graduated from Brescia College in 1989 (B.A. in Social Science) and earned his M.A. Ed. from Western Kentucky University in 1994. He is a 34-year member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and has twice been named to “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Educators.” In 2019, he served as a Court Coach for the USA Men’s Basketball U19 Team, working alongside Kansas State Head Coach Bruce Weber during the team’s Gold Medal run in Greece.
In his free time, Coach Britt enjoys fishing, home improvement projects, and gardening. He is the proud father of four daughters: Carissa, Caleigh, Ashleigh, and Alleigh, and is the son of the late Gussie and H.C. Britt, Sr.
