Coach Malang (JJ) Jarju (98-41-10) enters his ninth season as head coach of Bethel men's soccer in 2024-25.
Coach Jarju played soccer at Bethel from 2003 to 2006 then served as an assistant coach with the program for eight seasons. He was named interim head coach in July 2016 after the resignation of his mentor Melvin Belong. During Jarju's tenure as head coach, the Wildcats have qualified for three NAIA national tournaments (2019, 2020 and 2023).
Jarju earned his Bachelor of Science in physical education from Bethel in 2008 and his master's degree in education in 2021. He is a native of Banjul, The Gambia, in West Africa where he attended Nusrat High School and played for both the junior and senior Gambian national teams.
Coach Jarju owns the record for most goals scored in a career at Bethel with 56. He also holds the program record for most career points (151) and most career assists (39). Jarju was named All-TranSouth Conference first team, All-Region first team and NAIA All-American honorable mention for the Wildcats. He was the first-ever Bethel men's soccer player to have his jersey retired and displayed in Baker Fieldhouse.
As a coach, Jarju holds a U.S.S.F.C. certificate and is a member of NSCAA. He is involved in a soccer club with Jackson Wolves and player development in Jackson and the surrounding communities. Coach Jarju conducts several soccer camps each summer.
