Softball Splits Weekend Games in Arkansas
CONWAY, Ark. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats rapped out 21 hits in sweeping a doubleheader from Williams Baptist Friday afternoon in Conway, Arkansas. With the two wins, Bethel moved to 4-0 on the young season.
The Lady Cats faced Central Baptist Saturday in Conway. CBC turned the tables on Bethel with a sweep of the Lady Wildcats. The Cats fell 7-4 and 9-2.
Bethel came from behind to win game one against WBC. The Cats scored a single run in the fifth and tacked on two runs in the sixth to win 5-4. Kayla Gillespie socked two home runs and drove in three runs. Kennedy Gillespie hit a solo shot and drove in a run. Alexa Trasher accounted for the other RBI. Lily Trasher picked up the victory pitching four innings yielding just two hits and a run.
The Cats pounded out 11 hits in game two against the Eagles and won 14-6. With the game tied at five after three innings, the Lady Cats scored three in the fourth and six in the fifth to win. Melanie Alexander led Bethel with four hits in at four at bats. Alexander had eight total bases which included a double and triple. The Gillespie girls were at it again, combining for three hits, three run scored, and three RBI's. Alexis Wheeler, Brittany Minor, Jade Brallier and Kirsten Eversole each drove in two runs. Kayla Reed also had an RBI. Kaylie McKinley was the winning pitcher.
A late rally came up short in game one against CBC. Two runs in the fifth and sixth were not enough to overcome CBC's lead. Wheeler had an RBI in the game. Kayla Gillespie drove in two runs while Thrasher accounted for the other RBI. Bethel left eight runners on. Kalani Kuroda was charged with the loss.
Game two saw CBC outhit Bethel 13-4. Lily Johnson suffered the loss. Melanie Alexander continued her hot start to the season with a home run and two RBI's.
