Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Blue Mountain
BLUE MOUNTAIN, MS – The Bethel Lady Wildcats traveled to Blue Mountain Tuesday and came away with a doubleheader sweep of the Toppers. The Cats took game one 7-1 and game two 8-2.
Big innings were the pattern in both games. In game one, Bethel scored three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth. That proved to more than enough for Madison Locke who pitched a five-hitter. Madison White had two RBI's in the third. Kennedy Gillespie drove in a single run in the inning. Melanie Alexander drove in a run in the fifth to give Bethel a 4-0 margin. Maria Murdaugh was back in the lineup after being out with an injury and wasted no time in making an impact. Murdaugh broke the game open with a three-run RBI single in the inning. The Wildcats outhit BMC 13-5.
Bethel's Kalani Kuroda played a key role in game two. The former Jackson South Side standout drove in two runs and scored a run in the second. She followed with two more RBI's in the third. Gillian Grahn had an RBI single in the inning. The Toppers cut into the Bethel margin with two runs in the sixth. Bethel responded with two runs in the top of the seventh. Alexa Thrasher drove in Alexander with a fielder's choice. Alexis Wheeler doubled in Bethel's final run in the inning. Both teams had seven hits in the game. Madison Haught had a solid effort and picked up the win.
Bethel moved to 17-11 on the season.
Blue Mountain fell to 10-16. The Toppers have lost six straight.
The Lady Wildcats will return to action this weekend hosting MSC foe Cumberland University. Friday's doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. Saturday's twin bill starts at noon.
