Lady Cats Split DH with Cumberland University
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats and the Cumberland Phoenix completed their four game weekend series with a doubleheader at Lady Wildcat Park in McKenzie Saturday. CU took both games on Friday winning 8-6 and 6-2.
In game one the Lady Cats struck for three runs in the bottom of the third. Melanie Alexander led off the inning with a double to left. Morgan Hunt came in to run for Alexander and scored later a two-run home run by Gillian Grahn.
The Cats put the game away in the bottom of the sixth. A two run double by Leah Beasley and an error by Cumberland gave Bethel two more runs and the Cats won 5-0.
Kaylie McKinley went the distance firing a six-hitter to pick up the Wildcat win. Mariah Clark suffered the CU loss. Bethel outhit the Phoenix 9-6. Cumberland committed three errors in the game.
The Phoenix grabbed an early lead in game two. Ashtyn Blair hit a two-run homer in the top of the second.
The Wildcats scored with Kennedy Gillespie crossing the plate after a throwing error by CU's shortstop.
The Phoenix pushed across a run in the top of the sixth to lead 3-1. CU went to win by that score. Cumberland outhit the Cats 7-3.
Madison Haught was the hard luck loser while Emily Cooper picked up the Phoenix victory.
Bethel finished the day at 18-14 overall and 10-8 in the league. The Phoenix returned home at 16-16 and 11-13.
The Cats travel to Campbellsville University Tuesday to meet the Tigers in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. CST. The games will mark the first of ten straight road games for Bethel.
