Softball Splits at Campbellsville
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -The Bethel Wildcats traveled to Campbellsville for a doubleheader Tuesday.
The Lady Cats snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 9-7 win in game one. The Bethel win snapped a CU 16 game winning streak.
Campbellsville (RV) scored four runs in the second to take the lead.
The Cats rallied with three runs in the third. Kennedy Gillespie scored on a Tiger error. Leah Beasley scored on a Maria Murdaugh fielder's choice. Alex Thrasher followed with a single up the middle driving in Melanie Alexander.
With their backs to the wall, the Cats showed some spunk with a huge seventh inning. Alexis Wheeler had an RBI single which was followed by a Thrasher RBI. Beasley and Murdaugh both had two run doubles. Thrasher finished off the inning with an RBI single.
The Cats would need the runs as Campbellsville did not go quietly in in the seventh. The Tigers plated three runs and had the tying runs in scoring position before Madison Haught closed the door for the victory.
Haught went the distance giving up nine hits. Katy Chadwell suffered the Tiger loss. The Wildcats had 13 hits with Wheeler leading the attack with three in the game.
Game two saw the Tigers score six runs in the first. Bethel countered with four runs in the top of the second. The key hit in the inning was a Beasley two run single.
The Lady Cats tied the game in the top of third. Gillespie had an RBI single. Beasley grounded into a fielder's choice allowing Wheeler to cross the plate.
Campbellsville regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning.
The Cats came right back with a run of their own in the fourth when Madison White drew a bases loaded walk allowing Thrasher to tie the game at seven.
Campbellsville's Payton Blades slugged a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put the Tigers up 10-7.
Each team collected nine hits in the game. Bethel stranded nine runners. Campbellsville won despite committing seven errors. Madison Locke as charged with the loss. Karson Williams picked up her 10th win on the season.
Bethel is 20-22 overall and 12-16 in the MSC. Campbellsville is 29-14 and 20-6.
Bethel returns home this weekend to close out the regular season against No. 4 Freed-Hardman. The teams play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 2 p.m. and then a twin bill Saturday starting at noon.
