Cats Drop Doubleheader to FHU

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Two old rivals squared Friday in the first two games of a four game MSC weekend series. Bethel played host to No. 4 ranked Freed-Hardeman. The Lions had the best of it winning both games. Freed took game one 6-2 and then completed the sweep with a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

 In game one, the Lions scored a run in the first to lead 1-0. Kennedy Harris drove in two runs in the second to give the Lions a 3-0 margin. Sophie Dunavant had an RBI triple which was followed by a two-run homer by Morgan Crawford in the fifth. The Lady Lions led 6-0.

Bethel's runs came as a result of a two-run homer by Kennedy Gillespie in the bottom of the fifth.

FHU outhit Bethel 10-7. Morgan Crawford picked up the Lion win. Crawford was relieved by Chloe Winters in the sixth who came in with the bases loaded and one out. She pitched out of the jam and picked up the save.

Madison Haught pitched well but suffered the loss.

Game two saw Freed ace Brittany Adair toss a three-hit shutout to win. Adair had sixteen strikeouts.

The Lions scored single runs in the first and sixth.

Bethel had runners at second and third with one out in the fifth but Bethel was unable to get a big hit and Adair held on for the win.

FHU outhit the Cats 9-3.

Madison Locke pitched well for four innings allowing just one run but suffered the tough loss. Kaylie McKinley had three solid innings giving up a single run.

Bethel dropped to 20-24 overall and 12-18 in the MSC. FHU moved to 43-3 and 26-3.

The squads close out their regular seasons Saturday in a twin bill starting at noon. Senior Day ceremonies will take place before the first game.
