Cats Meet UT Southern in Quarterfinals of MSC Championship
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bethel Wildcat softball squad, fresh off their two wins over Cumberland University in the opening round will face UT Southern in the quarterfinals of the MSC Championship in Bowling Green.
The tournament resumes at South Warren High in Bowling Green, Ky. Action gets started on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT with No. 4 seed Tennessee Southern taking on No. 5 seed Bethel. The winner will face top-seeded Freed-Hardeman on Friday at 11 a.m. CT. Thursday wraps up with Lindsey Wilson hosting Georgetown at 3:30 p.m. CT. The winner will face No. 2 seed Campbellsville Friday at 1:30 p.m. CT.
Friday will also feature two elimination games at 4 and 6:30 p.m. CT. The winners bracket final is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on Saturday with the loser's bracket semifinal taking place at 1:30 p.m. CT. The loser's bracket final will take place on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday May 8 at Noon CT with the if-necessary to follow.
Bethel is 22-26 on the season. The Cats are 3-5 in neutral site games. UTS is 25-23 and will play their first neutral site game of the year.
Bethel is led by MSC All-Conference performer Melanie Alexander. She is hitting .485 and has a team leading slugging percentage of .745. Alexander leads the Cats with 38 runs driven in. She leads the team in doubles (21), hits (80), and runs scored (44). Alexander is tied with Alexis Wheeler with six home runs. Wheeler is second in RBI's with 27 and leads the squad in stolen bases with 16. Gillian Grahn is second in hits with 42. Maria Murdaugh is tied with Alexander in walks with 17.
Madison Haught and Madison Locke lead the Cats in the circle with six wins each.
Wheeler was named to the MSC 2nd team while Grahn and Murdaugh were named to the honorable mention squad.
Bethel and UTS met in early April in Pulaski with the FireHawks winning three of the four games.
