Lady Cats Sweep Doubleheader as Extra-Inning Grand Slam Ignites Statement Day

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats delivered a complete performance Thursday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from the Milligan Buffaloes behind clutch hitting, resilient pitching, and a momentum-shifting grand slam in extra innings to open the day.

Game One – Bethel 12, Milligan 8 (9 innings)

The opener turned into a gritty test of toughness, with both teams trading punches from the first inning on. Milligan struck early, building a six-run advantage through the first two frames, but the Lady Cats answered with a six-run third inning to pull even and completely flip the energy of the game.

From there, the contest settled into a back-and-forth battle that pushed into extra innings tied at 7–7. After Bethel kept Milligan off the board in the top of the ninth, the Wildcats seized their moment.

With the bases loaded and the game on the line, Kinsley Caruthers delivered the swing of the day — a walk-off grand slam that ended the game in dramatic fashion and capped a five-RBI performance. The blast sent Bethel pouring out of the dugout and set the tone for the remainder of the afternoon.

At the plate, Riley Sharp continued her strong start to the season, finishing with three hits and three RBIs, while Bethel piled up 12 hits overall. In the circle, Amelia Sherrill provided a stabilizing presence in relief, throwing seven innings and allowing just two runs to earn the win.

"That first game showed the heart of this group," said Head Coach Craig Massey. "We didn't panic when things didn't go our way early. We stayed aggressive, trusted each other, and when the moment came, we delivered. That's the kind of response you want to see from your team."

Game Two – Bethel 12, Milligan 4

Fueled by the emotional win in Game One, the Lady Cats wasted no time asserting control in the nightcap.

Bethel exploded for six runs in the opening inning and added two more in the second to quickly build separation. The offense stayed relentless, applying pressure on the bases and forcing Milligan into mistakes as the Wildcats cruised to another double-digit scoring effort.

The big swing in Game Two came from Kalani Hernandez, who launched a home run to break the game wide open. She drove in five runs in the game. Chanley Price chipped in with two RBIs, while Amelia Sherrill stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

In the circle, Bethel mixed arms effectively, with Sherrill closing the door by tossing three scoreless innings to secure the sweep.

"After a game like that first one, it's easy to let emotions dip," Massey added. "I loved how we came out focused in game two. That shows growth, maturity, and belief in what we're building."
