Lady Cats Split Road Twinbill at Williams Baptist
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Bethel Lady Wildcats earned a split on the road Saturday against the Williams Baptist Eagles at the WBU Softball Field, dominating the opener 13-4 before falling 9-6 in the nightcap.
Game One: Bats Stay Hot in 13-4 Win
Bethel delivered an offensive clinic in game one, racking up 18 hits and three home runs in a commanding victory.
The Lady Cats jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and never looked back. They added three more in the third and sealed the win with a five-run seventh inning.
Chanley Price powered the lineup, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs. Kinsley Caruthers added a homer and finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Amelia Sherrill went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, while Amme Benson and Kayleigh Dunn contributed key RBIs.
Sherrill also handled the work in the circle, improving to 4-0 with a complete-game effort. She allowed four runs on 10 hits and kept Williams Baptist from stringing together big innings.
Game Two: Defensive Struggles Costly in 9-6 Setback
In the second game, Bethel's offense remained productive with 14 hits, but five defensive errors proved costly in a 9-6 loss.
Riley Sharp connected for a home run, and Price stayed locked in at the plate with a 4-for-4 performance that included a double and triple. Kayleigh Dunn added three hits and two RBIs, while Emma McKenzie chipped in a pair of hits.
After falling behind 5-1 in the third inning, the Lady Cats responded with three runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to one. However, Williams Baptist answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting.
Bethel pushed across two runs in the seventh, but the comeback attempt fell short.
"We swung it really well all day," said head coach Craig Massey. "Game one was one of our most complete offensive performances of the year. In the second game, we put ourselves in position, but when you give good teams extra outs, it's tough to overcome. We'll clean that up and keep building."
The Lady Cats combined for 32 hits and 19 runs in the doubleheader and moved to 6-4 on the season as they prepare for their next matchup.
