Lady Cats Split Games on Final Day of Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. -The Bethel Lady Wildcats participated in the Gulf Shores Invitational in Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend.

The Cats lost to Faulkner and William Carey on Saturday and were scheduled to play William Woods and Thomas University on Sunday.

For varied reasons, the Lady Wildcats found themselves playing (RV) Texas A & M -Victoria and Morningside.

The Cats fell to A &M 4-2 in game one of the day. A four run first inning would be all the Jaguars would need to move to 14-6 on the season.

Kinsley Nichols led Bethel with three hits. Riley Sharp and Chanley Price each drove in single runs for the Cats who lost their fourth in a row and fell to 6-7 on the year.

Both squads had seven hits in the game.

The Lady Cats (7-7) snapped a four-game losing streak in their final appearance in the invitational with a dramatic walk off victory in game two.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, Kylie Frost, Kayleigh Dunn, Kalani Hernandez, and Nichols drove in runs to give Bethel a 4-2 lead.

Morningside answered with two runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead at 5-4.

Frost singled in the tying run and Fallyn Jordan would later score the winning run in the seventh on a passed ball.

Bethel outhit the Mustangs 13-10. Price and Frost each had three hits to lead   Bethel's offensive attack.

Amelia Sherrill picked up her fifth win of the year.

Bethel returns home Friday and Saturday, opening up league play hosting Georgetown. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday at 2 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
