Lady Cats Drop Doubleheader at Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. — The Bethel Lady Wildcats battled throughout both contests but ultimately came up short in in Mid-South Conference doubleheader action, falling 7-6 and 9-4 to Freed-Hardeman on Friday at Tucker Field.

Game 1: Bethel (8-12, 1-3 MSC) put together one of its stronger offensive performances of the season in the opener, collecting 12 hits, but a late surge by Freed-Hardeman proved to be the difference. The Lady Cats broke through late, scoring two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead. Fallyn Jordan and Kinsley Caruthers each recorded multi-hit games, while Kalani Hernandez delivered a big performance at the plate with two hits and four RBIs. Kayleigh Dunn also drove in a run for Bethel. Freed-Hardeman answered however in the bottom half of the sixth inning, plating four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run from Myleah Hardy to swing the momentum and reclaim a 7-6 advantage.

Amelia Sherrill was tagged with the loss in relief after Freed-Hardeman's late rally. Despite the setback, Bethel showed aggressiveness on the bases, with multiple stolen bases adding pressure throughout the game.

Game 2: In the nightcap, Bethel jumped out to a quick start, scoring three runs in the opening inning behind a three-run home run from Riley Sharp. The Lady Cats extended their lead to 4-1 in the fourth, but Freed-Hardeman steadily chipped away before breaking the game open with a four-run sixth inning to pull away for the 9-4 win.

Sharp led the offense with two hits and three RBIs, while Fallyn Jordan added a hit and a run scored. Bethel managed just five hits in the second game as Freed-Hardeman's pitching settled in after the early innings.

Head coach Craig Massey emphasized both the positives and areas for improvement following the doubleheader. "We did some really good things offensively, especially in that first game, but we've got to find a way to finish," Massey said. "Against good teams, you can't let innings get away from you. We'll learn from it and keep working to put a complete game together."

Bethel falls to 8-13 overall and 1-4 in conference play and will look to bounce back as Mid-South Conference action continues tomorrow with a single game at FHU beginning at 1 p.m.
