Lady Cats Split with Cumberland, Walk-Off Heroics Highlights Game One

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The Bethel Lady Cats delivered late-game drama in the opener before falling in the nightcap, splitting a Mid-South Conference doubleheader with Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday at Lady Wildcat Park

Game 1: Bethel 9, Cumberland 7 (Walk-Off)
-The Lady Cats rallied in thrilling fashion, using a power surge and clutch hitting to secure a walk-off victory in the bottom of the eighth. Bethel finished with 10 hits, including four home runs, as Kinsley Nichols, Riley Sharp, and Kalani Hernandez all went deep. Nichols hit the game -winner with a two-run shot, while Sharp powered the offense with two home runs and three RBIs. Hernandez added a three-run blast to keep Bethel within striking distance.

Trailing late, Bethel chipped away before delivering the decisive blow in the eighth to seal the 9-7 victory. Despite committing four errors, the Lady Cats showed resilience at the plate. Briley Auvenshine and Kayleigh Dunn each contributed key hits, while Kinsley Caruthers provided stability in the circle in relief, limiting further damage and giving Bethel a chance to rally.

Cumberland was led by Karley Daughrity's three-hit performance and a home run from Sara Brogdon, but the Phoenix couldn't hold off Bethel's late push.

Game 2: Cumberland 7, Bethel 2 -
In the second game, Cumberland flipped the script early and never looked back, scoring four runs in the second inning to take control. The Lady Cats managed six hits, with Riley Sharp continuing her strong day at the plate with two hits and an RBI. Briley Auvenshine also drove in a run, but Bethel struggled to generate consistent offense against Cumberland's Madison Lancaster, who went the distance.

Cumberland added insurance runs late, highlighted by a home run from Hailey Donato and a pair of RBIs from Daughrity.

Coach Craig Massey commented, "We showed a lot of fight in that first game. To stay in it, hit the ball the way we did, and finish with a walk-off says a lot about this group. Game two, we just didn't have the same energy early and it cost us. We've got to find a way to bring that intensity for both games."

The split moves Bethel to 9-16 overall and 2-7 in conference play as the Lady Cats look to build momentum heading into next week.

The Phoenix moved to 8-12 and 3-3.
