Lady Cats Upset No. 3 Campbellsville
MCKENZIE, Tenn. –With both squads battling injuries and sickness, the Bethel Lady Wildcats played host to the 3rd ranked Campbellsville Tigers Thursday night in Crisp Arena. The Lady Cats prevailed with a 61-50 upset victory.
The win moved Bethel to 10-9 overall and 4-7 in the Mid-South Conference. It was just the second loss for the Tigers who fell to 16-2 and 8-2. Bethel moved to 137-23 all-time in Crisp.
CU leads the series 14-3 with the three Bethel wins coming in McKenzie.
The Cats led 20-11 at the end of the first quarter and moved out to a 33-19 margin at the half. Ryann Roberts (9) and Mickey Head (8) combined for 17 of Bethel's points in the first 20 minutes. Keely Morrow, returning to the court after missing a couple of games knocked down two key three-pointers and had six points at the break.
The Tigers outscored Bethel 20-13 in the third and trailed 46- 39 entering the fourth quarter. The visitors from the Commonwealth, behind baskets by Sarah Sutton scored the first five points of the final frame and Bethel's lead was cut to 46-44 with eight minutes left. Bethel's Kyla Taylor hit two key baskets to give the Cats a 50-46 margin. They added six straight points after that to grab a 56-46 lead and went on to get the much-needed win.
The Lady Cats shot 38 percent from the field and finished with seven three-pointers. Campbellsville shot 35 percent and finished with five made treys. The Tigers outrebounded Bethel 34-32. Bethel's guards pulled down 16 of the Wildcat boards. Bethel had a 12-2 advantage in second chance points.
Head led the Cats with 14 points. The senior also had three blocks, and seven rebounds. Millie Bryant who did most of her damage in the second half finished with 13 points, seven assists, and four boards. Roberts had 11 tallies while Jenna Foust contributed with nine points. Morrow completed the night with eight points. Taylor continues to be a key off the bench and had six points and seven rebounds.
Sutton led the Tigers with 11 points. Maddy Boyle had 10 while Courtney Pritchett had a game high 10 rebounds.
Bethel remains at home with a 2 p.m. tip-off Saturday against MSC foe Georgetown.
