Slow Start Cost Lady Cats
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 3 Bethel Lady Wildcats faced another road test as they met the (RV) Georgetown Lady Tigers Saturday in Georgetown. Kentucky.
After beating Cumberlands (KY) Thursday in Williamsburg the Lady Cats saw their comeback come up short falling to the GC Lady Tigers 73-70. The Cats dropped to 20-3 overall and 5-2 in the MSC. The Cats have lost two of their last three outings, proving just how tough the Mid-South Conference can be. Bethel is 8-2 in road action this season.
Bethel beat GC 80-61 back on January 10 in Crisp Arena.
The Tigers moved to 16-1 at home and to 17-5 and 3-3 in the league.
Bethel got off to a slow start in the first quarter shooting just 29 percent from the floor. The Cats were 0-of-6 in three-point attempts. The Tigers hit five three pointers and led 21-11 after one. The Tigers led by as many as 13 at 28-15 with just over seven minutes left in the second period. GC led 38-29 at the half.
Behind the outside shooting of Mikee Buchanan, the Cats charged back and trailed just 46-45 at one point in the third. Buchanan knocked down three treys and had 11 points in the quarter. GC answered the challenge, however and led 58-49 after three quarters. Trailing 72-63 in the fourth, the Cats stormed back again and trailed 72-70 with seconds left but Georgetown held on for the three point victory.
Buchanan led Bethel with 18 points. She had 16 of those points in the second half. Madison Hart had 15 points. Kylie Reynolds and Micah Hart followed with 10 points each.
GC hit 12 three pointers of 30 attempts from outside while the Cats were 7-of- 25 behind the arc.
Daisy Gale led the Tigers with a game high 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Bethel returns to action Thursday playing host to Cumberland University at 5:30 p.m.
